Pilea peperomioides (12cm pot)

Pilea peperomioides, commonly known as the Chinese Money Plant, takes its name from its round, coin-shaped leaves. Each leaf sits on the end of a long, slender stalk, giving the plant an open shape that looks particularly lovely viewed from above.

Native to southern China, this compact houseplant comes in a 12cm nursery pot and stands approximately 20cm tall. As it matures, you may spot little plants growing around the base. Leave them in place for a fuller Pilea, or pot them up once they have roots of their own to share with a friend.

Light & Position

Choose a spot with bright, indirect light. A desk or shelf near an east-facing window works well. The leaves turn towards the light, so give the pot a quarter turn from time to time if you’d like it to grow evenly.

Watering & Feeding

Check the compost with your finger. When the top 2cm feels dry, water thoroughly and let the nursery pot drain before returning it to its decorative pot. In winter, the compost usually takes longer to dry between waterings.

Feed with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer, following the dilution and frequency instructions on the bottle.
