Hedera helix 'Mint Kolibri' (hangpot)

Hedera helix ‘Mint Kolibri’ is an attractive variegated ivy with patterned green and creamy-white leaves carried along trailing stems. Its fresh colouring and cascading growth bring texture to hanging displays and soften the edges of shelves and plant stands.

Supplied in a 19cm diameter hanging nursery pot with trails approximately 50cm or longer, this is a generous plant for an immediate leafy display. Give its stems room to hang freely, or gently guide them around a support to create a climbing feature.

What Makes ‘Mint Kolibri’ Special?

The variegated leaves bring a lighter appearance than plain green ivy, with markings that vary naturally from leaf to leaf. Its evergreen foliage provides interest throughout the year without relying on flowers.

Ivy is particularly useful for cooler rooms, making it a good option for a bright hallway, bedroom or porch where some tropical houseplants might struggle.

Light & Position

Choose bright, indirect light to help maintain the variegated colouring. Moderate light is tolerated, but very shaded positions can lead to greener growth.

Protect from strong direct sunshine through glass, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering

Allow the upper few centimetres of compost to begin drying before watering thoroughly. Let excess water drain away and never leave the pot standing in water.

Check regularly during active growth, especially in a hanging position where compost may dry more quickly. Reduce watering in winter and in cooler rooms.

Humidity & Temperature

Ivy prefers cooler conditions, around 10–18°C, rather than a hot, centrally heated position. Keep away from radiators and drying draughts.

Normal household humidity is usually suitable, although very dry air can encourage red spider mites. Check the undersides of leaves occasionally for fine webbing or mottled foliage.

Feeding

Feed approximately monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser, following the manufacturer's instructions. Reduce or stop feeding when growth slows.

Pruning & Repotting

Trim overly long stems to maintain the shape and encourage branching. Wear gloves when pruning, as ivy sap can irritate the skin.

Repot when the roots fill the container, moving up just one pot size. Use free-draining, peat-free multipurpose compost and a container with drainage holes.
