Haworthia fasciata ‘Big Band’

Haworthia ‘Big Band’, commonly called Zebra Haworthia, is a compact succulent with broad, raised white bands across its pointed, deep green leaves. The stripes give each leaf a ridged texture, especially noticeable when you look down into the rosette.

Supplied in a 9cm nursery pot and approximately 20cm tall including the pot, it fits neatly on a bright desk or narrow windowsill. Its fleshy leaves store water, making it a good first succulent for someone who prefers a plant that needs only occasional watering.

Light & Position

Choose a spot with bright, indirect light. An east-facing windowsill with gentle morning sun is a good choice. Protect the leaves from prolonged, hot afternoon sun through glass. Normal household humidity is fine and there’s no need to mist.

Watering & Feeding

Let the compost dry almost completely between waterings. Lift the nursery pot out of its decorative pot, water the compost thoroughly and let it drain before putting it back. Water less often in winter, when growth slows.

During active growth in spring and summer, feed occasionally with a dilute cactus and succulent fertiliser. When the plant needs repotting, choose a pot with drainage holes and a free-draining, peat-free cactus compost.

Growth & Flowers

Over time, ‘Big Band’ can produce smaller rosettes around its base, gradually forming a clump. An established plant may also surprise you in summer with a slender flower stem carrying small white blooms above the striped foliage.
