add a pot to fit this plant

Zamioculcas zamiifolia ‘Midori’, commonly known as the Midori ZZ Plant, is a distinctive modern cultivar of the classic ZZ Plant, selected for its broad, rounded leaflets and dense, upright growth. The deep green foliage has the characteristic glossy finish of a ZZ, but the fuller, softer leaf shape gives ‘Midori’ a noticeably different appearance from the standard variety.

Supplied in a substantial 19cm nursery pot at approximately 60cm tall, this is an established plant with plenty of immediate presence. Its strong architectural shape works particularly well in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and offices, while its famously easy-going nature makes it an excellent choice for less experienced plant owners too.

Light & Position

Zamioculcas ‘Midori’ is extremely adaptable and will tolerate lower light conditions better than many houseplants. For the strongest, healthiest growth, position it in bright to moderate indirect light.

Avoid prolonged strong direct sunshine through glass, which can scorch the foliage. Although ZZ Plants tolerate darker positions, growth will naturally be slower where light levels are very low.

Watering

Allow the compost to dry thoroughly between waterings, then water well and allow all excess water to drain away. ZZ Plants store moisture in their thick underground rhizomes, making them exceptionally drought tolerant.

Overwatering is far more likely to cause problems than underwatering. During autumn and winter, when growth slows, the plant may need watering only occasionally.

Humidity & Temperature

‘Midori’ is well adapted to normal household humidity and does not need misting. Keep it in a warm room away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.

Its tolerance of typical indoor conditions makes it particularly useful for offices, bedrooms and other spaces where more demanding tropical plants may struggle.

Feeding

Feed lightly during spring and summer while the plant is actively growing using a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. Feeding every four to six weeks is usually sufficient.

Reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter.

Growth & Care

‘Midori’ has a naturally upright, compact habit and produces broad, glossy leaflets held closely together along sturdy stems. Compared with a standard ZZ Plant, the foliage is noticeably rounder and the overall plant has a fuller, more structured appearance.

ZZ Plants are slow to moderate growers and are happy to remain fairly snug in their pots. Repot only when the rhizomes and roots have comfortably filled the existing nursery pot, usually every few years.

Occasionally wipe the leaves gently with a soft damp cloth to remove dust and keep their naturally glossy surface looking its best.

Why You'll Love It

  • Broader, rounder foliage than a traditional ZZ Plant
  • Deep green, naturally glossy leaves
  • Dense, upright and architectural growth habit
  • Extremely low-maintenance and drought tolerant
  • Tolerates lower light conditions
  • Generous 19cm plant at approximately 60cm tall

Pet & Child Safety

Zamioculcas is toxic if eaten and its sap can cause irritation, so keep this plant out of reach of pets and young children. Wash your hands after pruning or handling damaged stems.
