Zamioculcas zamiifolia (17cm pot)

Zamioculcas zamiifolia, commonly known as the ZZ Plant or Zanzibar Gem, is one of the easiest and most reliable houseplants you can grow. Its upright stems carry glossy, deep green leaflets, creating a clean architectural shape that works beautifully in homes, offices and lower-light spaces.

At approximately 60cm+ tall, this is an established specimen with plenty of presence while remaining exceptionally low maintenance. Thick underground rhizomes store water, allowing the plant to cope remarkably well with occasional missed waterings.

Light & Position

ZZ Plants are extremely adaptable and will tolerate anything from low light to bright, indirect light. Growth will usually be stronger in a brighter position, but avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can damage the foliage.

Watering

Allow the compost to dry out completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and let excess water drain away. Zamioculcas stores water in its thick rhizomes and is highly drought-tolerant, so it is much safer to underwater than to overwater.

Water particularly sparingly during winter and never allow the pot to sit in water.

Humidity & Temperature

Happy in normal household humidity and does not require misting. Keep in typical warm indoor conditions and away from prolonged cold draughts.

Feeding

Feed lightly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser at around half the recommended strength while the plant is actively growing. Reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter.

Leaf Care

Wipe the glossy leaves occasionally with a soft damp cloth to remove dust and keep the foliage looking its best. Avoid artificial leaf-shine products.
