Tillandsia Air Plants are fascinating tropical epiphytes that grow without soil, absorbing moisture and nutrients through specialised cells on their leaves. Their sculptural shapes make them ideal for shelves, hanging displays, terrariums and other creative arrangements.

Lucky Dip: Your air plant will be hand selected from our current range at the time of ordering, so the exact species, shape and colour may vary. We’ll always choose a healthy specimen from the best available stock.

Light & Position

Prefers bright, indirect or diffused light with good air circulation. A little gentle morning or evening sun is usually fine, but avoid prolonged strong direct sunlight through glass, which can scorch or dehydrate the leaves.

How to Water an Air Plant

Air Plants do not grow in compost, so they need to absorb water directly through their foliage. Immerse the whole plant in rainwater or soft water, then remove it and gently shake off excess moisture.

How often you need to water will depend on the temperature, humidity and airflow in your home. During warmer, drier periods they will need watering more frequently, while less is required during cooler winter months.

Drying After Watering

Allow your air plant to dry completely after watering. Gently shake away excess water and place it somewhere with good airflow, ideally angled so that water cannot remain trapped in the centre of the plant.

Water sitting around the crown for long periods can lead to rot, so good drainage and air circulation are just as important as watering itself.

Humidity & Temperature

Tillandsia appreciate moderate humidity but should never remain permanently wet. Keep in a well-ventilated position and away from cold draughts, ideally at temperatures above approximately 12°C.

Feeding

Air Plants need very little feeding. During spring and summer, an occasional dilute feed suitable for bromeliads or orchids can be added to the soaking water while the plants are actively growing.
