Strelitzia nicolai, commonly known as the Giant White Bird of Paradise, is a bold, architectural houseplant with large, upright, paddle-shaped leaves. Its sculptural form makes it a true statement piece, bringing height and a relaxed, tropical feel to interior spaces.
Given the right conditions and time, mature plants can produce striking white and blue flowerheads, though it is primarily grown for its impressive foliage indoors.
Care & positioning
Place in bright light, with some direct sun if possible. Water when the top layer of compost has dried, allowing it to dry slightly more between waterings in winter. Keep in a warm position, ideally above 15°C.
Good to know
A fast-growing plant that can reach impressive heights over time. Leaves may naturally split as they mature, which is part of its character. Benefits from occasional misting or higher humidity.
