Spathiphyllum ‘Bellini’

Spathiphyllum wallisii ‘Bellini’, commonly known as the Peace Lily, is a compact, easy-going houseplant with glossy deep green foliage and elegant white blooms held above the leaves. Its fresh, upright appearance makes it one of those dependable indoor plants that works almost anywhere, from bedrooms and bathrooms to living spaces and offices.

Supplied in a 13cm nursery pot at approximately 35cm+ tall, ‘Bellini’ is a naturally compact Peace Lily that typically remains smaller than many other varieties. It provides plenty of immediate greenery without requiring a large amount of space and can produce white flowers repeatedly when grown in good conditions.

Light & Position

Peace Lilies are adaptable and will tolerate moderate or lower light, but for the healthiest growth and best chance of flowers, choose a position with bright, indirect or filtered light.

Avoid prolonged direct sunshine through glass, which can scorch the foliage. ‘Bellini’ is particularly useful for rooms where you want plenty of greenery but don't have an exceptionally sunny position.

Watering

Water when the upper layer of compost has started to dry, then water thoroughly and allow all excess water to drain away. Peace Lilies prefer light, consistent moisture but should not be left sitting in permanently wet compost.

One of their useful characteristics is that the foliage often begins to droop noticeably when the plant becomes thirsty. Try not to rely on this every time, but a good drink will usually help a healthy plant perk up again quite quickly.

Humidity & Temperature

Spathiphyllum appreciates moderate humidity and warm, stable indoor conditions. Bathrooms and kitchens can suit them particularly well if there is enough natural light.

Keep away from cold draughts, radiators and other sources of very dry heat. Brown leaf tips can sometimes be encouraged by very dry air or inconsistent watering.

Feeding

Feed regularly during spring and summer while the plant is actively growing using a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.

Flowers

The distinctive white Peace Lily blooms are actually white leaf-like spathes surrounding a central flower spike. They are produced most readily when the plant receives good indirect light and can gradually turn green as they age.

Once a flower has faded, remove the entire flower stem close to the base of the plant to keep it looking tidy and allow energy to go into fresh growth.

Growth & Care

‘Bellini’ has a naturally compact, clump-forming habit and typically remains around 45cm tall when mature, making it particularly useful where a larger Peace Lily would eventually become too dominant.

Occasionally wipe the broad glossy leaves with a soft damp cloth to remove dust and keep the foliage looking fresh. Repot only when the roots have comfortably filled the existing nursery pot, usually every few years rather than annually.
