Skimmia japonica ‘Rubella’ is a compact evergreen shrub with glossy dark green leaves and deep red winter buds that open into fragrant white flowers in early spring. Its long-lasting colour makes it a brilliant choice for patios, balconies and shady garden corners.
Place outdoors in a shaded, sheltered spot. Water well then allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly before watering again. Feed lightly in spring and deadhead spent blooms to encourage a longer flowering period.
