Schefflera ‘Nora’

Schefflera ‘Nora’, commonly known as the Umbrella Plant, is a classic easy-care houseplant with glossy green leaves arranged in distinctive umbrella-like clusters. Its fresh green foliage and neat, upright growth give it a clean, architectural appearance that works beautifully in almost any interior.

Supplied in a 13cm nursery pot at approximately 30cm tall, ‘Nora’ is a compact young plant that will gradually develop into a fuller, taller specimen. It is particularly good for adding height and greenery to shelves, desks and side tables now, with the potential to become a much more substantial houseplant over time.

Light & Position

Schefflera ‘Nora’ grows best in bright, indirect or filtered light, where it will produce strong, compact growth. It is also relatively tolerant of moderate light, making it a useful choice for rooms that are not exceptionally bright.

Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunshine through glass, which can scorch the foliage. Turn the plant occasionally to encourage even growth towards the light.

Watering

Allow the upper few centimetres of compost to dry before watering thoroughly, then allow all excess water to drain away. Schefflera prefers a regular wet-to-dry watering cycle rather than permanently damp compost.

Water less frequently during autumn and winter when growth slows, and never leave the nursery pot standing in water.

Humidity & Temperature

Schefflera ‘Nora’ adapts well to normal household humidity and prefers warm, stable indoor conditions. Keep away from cold draughts, frequently opened exterior doors and direct heat from radiators.

Regular misting is not essential. Occasionally wiping the glossy leaves with a soft damp cloth will remove dust and keep the foliage looking fresh.

Feeding

Feed regularly during spring and summer while the plant is actively growing using a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. Reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter.

Growth & Care

‘Nora’ has a naturally upright, bushy growth habit and can gradually develop into an attractive small indoor tree. It is relatively forgiving once established and responds well to occasional pruning if you would like to keep the plant compact and encourage a fuller shape.

Repot when the roots have comfortably filled the nursery pot, ideally during spring or summer, using a free-draining houseplant compost.
