Pteris cretica var. albolineata, commonly known as the White-Striped Cretan Brake Fern, is a distinctive indoor fern with elegant green fronds marked by a broad creamy-white stripe through the centre of each leaflet.

At approximately 75cm tall in a 24cm nursery pot, this is a substantial specimen with far more presence than the standard size. Its full, arching fronds create an impressive architectural display, making it ideal for larger rooms, bright bathrooms, hallways and spaces where you want an established fern with immediate impact.

Light & Position

Prefers moderate to bright, filtered or indirect light. Avoid prolonged strong direct sunlight, which can scorch the fronds and fade the pale central markings. It will also tolerate some gentle shade.

Watering

Keep the compost lightly and evenly moist while the plant is actively growing, allowing the surface to begin drying slightly before watering again. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away rather than leaving the roots sitting in waterlogged compost.

Reduce watering slightly during cooler or darker periods, while avoiding prolonged complete dryness.

Humidity & Temperature

Pteris appreciates moderate to higher humidity and warm, stable indoor conditions. A bright bathroom or kitchen can work particularly well. Keep away from cold draughts, radiators and other direct heat sources.

Regular misting is not essential if the surrounding humidity is suitable.

Feeding

Feed approximately once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser while the plant is actively growing. Reduce or stop feeding during winter.
