Polystichum polyblepharum, commonly known as Japanese Tassel Fern, is a beautifully structured evergreen fern with arching, glossy dark green fronds and distinctive bristled stems.
Its neat, symmetrical form and rich foliage give it a more refined, architectural feel than many traditional ferns, making it an excellent choice for contemporary gardens as well as classic shaded planting.
Perfect for borders, pots and courtyards, it adds year-round texture and depth, particularly in shaded areas where its glossy leaves catch the light.
Position: Partial to full shade. Shelter from strong winds and direct afternoon sun.
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist, especially during dry periods.
Soil: Moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.
Care: Very low maintenance. Remove any old or damaged fronds in spring to keep the plant looking fresh.
Good to know: A hardy, evergreen fern that holds its structure well through the year, bringing reliable interest to shaded spaces.
