Phlebodium aureum
Blue Star Fern
🚚 Free UK shipping on orders over £50 🪴
Phlebodium aureum, commonly known as the Blue Star Fern, is an easy-going houseplant loved for its unusual blue-green foliage and relaxed, architectural shape. Unlike many ferns, its thick, slightly wavy fronds grow in all directions, creating a natural, sculptural look that works beautifully in modern homes.
Native to tropical regions of the Americas, the Blue Star Fern is more forgiving than many traditional ferns and adapts well to typical indoor conditions. It thrives in bright, indirect light but will also tolerate lower light levels. Keep the compost lightly moist, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid prolonged drought and keep away from direct heat sources such as radiators.
This plant enjoys moderate to high humidity, making it an excellent choice for bathrooms and kitchens. Occasional misting can be beneficial, particularly during warmer months or when indoor heating is in use.
As well as being highly decorative, the Blue Star Fern is often chosen for its air-purifying qualities and is considered one of the easiest ferns to grow indoors.

Care Instructions
Light
Prefers indirect bright light and will tolerate direct sunlight in the morning or evening. If positioned in a shadier spot the plant will offer less growth and require less water.
Water
Thoroughly water, then allow the top few centimeters of compost to dry before re-watering. Water less in winter when the plant is growing more slowly. Over-watering can cause root rot.
Food
Feed every second time you water through spring and summer with a quality liquid plant food. There is no need to feed this plant in winter.
Humidity
This plant enjoys humidity. Place in a bathroom and/or mist regularly with water. Remove dust from the leaves with a damp cloth to improve photosynthesis.
