Oxalis ‘Sunset Velvet’ is a truly eye-catching colourful houseplant with striking foliage in shades of deep red, burnt orange and glowing gold. The velvety leaves create a beautiful sunset effect and are complemented by delicate yellow flowers that appear above the foliage.
Like other Oxalis plants, the leaves respond to light and will gently fold closed at night before reopening again during the day, making this a fascinating and interactive plant to grow.
Unlike many Oxalis varieties that grow from bulbs, ‘Sunset Velvet’ forms a semi-succulent plant which can be propagated from cuttings. It can be enjoyed indoors throughout the year, or moved outdoors to a sheltered spot during the warmer spring and summer months.
Place in medium to bright light for the best foliage colour. Water thoroughly, then allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry before watering again. Feed monthly during the growing season and reduce watering slightly in autumn and winter.
