Monstera deliciosa ‘Tauerii’
Compact Swiss Cheese Plant
🚚 Free UK shipping on orders over £50 🪴
Monstera deliciosa 'Tauerii' is a more compact form of the classic Swiss Cheese Plant, with glossy green, heart-shaped leaves that develop the characteristic splits and holes known as fenestrations. Compared with standard Monstera deliciosa, 'Tauerii' has a denser growth habit and tends to develop mature-looking foliage at a younger stage.
It is an excellent choice if you love the bold tropical look of a Monstera but would prefer a plant that grows more compactly. Although smaller than the standard species, 'Tauerii' is still a vigorous climbing plant and can eventually become a substantial statement houseplant when given good growing conditions and support.
Light & Position
Prefers bright, indirect or filtered light. Good light encourages strong growth and helps developing leaves produce more pronounced splits and perforations. It will tolerate moderate light, but growth may be slower and younger leaves may remain less fenestrated. Avoid prolonged strong direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.
Watering
Water when the upper 2–3cm of compost has dried, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Avoid keeping the compost permanently wet. Reduce watering during winter as growth naturally slows.
Humidity & Temperature
Monstera deliciosa 'Tauerii' appreciates warm, stable indoor conditions and moderate humidity but generally adapts well to normal household environments. Keep away from cold draughts and direct heat sources.
Climbing & Support
Like other Monsteras, 'Tauerii' is naturally a climbing plant and produces aerial roots as it grows. Providing a moss pole, coir pole or other sturdy support will encourage more upright growth and can help the plant develop larger, more mature foliage over time.
Feeding
Feed approximately once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser while the plant is actively growing. Reduce or stop feeding during winter.
Why You'll Love It
- More compact growth than standard Monstera deliciosa
- Develops characteristic splits and perforations at a relatively young stage
- Glossy green, architectural foliage
- Dense growth makes an impressive statement without immediately dominating a room
- Can be trained upwards on a moss or coir pole
- Easy-going and rewarding to grow
Pet & Child Safety
Monstera deliciosa is harmful if eaten and its sap can irritate the skin and eyes. Keep out of reach of pets and young children.
