Mimosa pudica

Mimosa pudica, commonly known as the Shy Plant or Sensitive Plant, is one of the most fascinating houseplants you can grow. Its delicate, fern-like leaves fold inwards when touched, gently reopening again after a short rest. The foliage also closes naturally at night, making this a wonderfully interactive plant for curious plant lovers.

Native to Central and South America, Mimosa pudica enjoys a warm, bright position and consistent moisture. It is a fun and unusual choice for a sunny windowsill, warm bathroom or bright indoor space where its movement can be enjoyed.

Please note: Although the leaf movement is part of the plant’s charm, repeated touching can weaken the plant over time, so it is best enjoyed gently rather than played with too often. After delivery, the leaves may arrive closed due to darkness or movement in transit. Place the plant somewhere bright and warm, and the foliage should reopen once it has settled.

Light: Bright, indirect light. A little gentle morning or evening sun is fine, but avoid harsh midday sun.
Water: Keep the compost lightly moist during spring and summer, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
Humidity: Enjoys higher humidity. Mist around the plant or place near other humidity-loving houseplants.
Care: Keep warm and away from cold draughts. Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertiliser.
