Bay Tree
Laurus nobilis, commonly known as the Bay Tree, is a classic evergreen shrub grown for its glossy, aromatic leaves which are widely used in cooking. Trained as a beautiful standard stem, it creates an elegant architectural feature that works perfectly beside front doors, on patios or framing garden pathways.
This slow-growing Mediterranean plant has deep green, leathery foliage that can be harvested fresh and used to flavour soups, stews and sauces. In spring, mature plants may produce small clusters of subtle yellow-green flowers.
Bay trees are ideal for container planting and thrive in a sheltered position with full sun or partial shade. Water moderately, allowing the compost to dry slightly between watering, and feed regularly during the growing season. Prune in summer to maintain a neat shape.
