Hoya kerrii (Vining Form)
Sweetheart Hoya
🚚 Free UK shipping on orders over £50 🪴
Hoya kerrii, commonly known as the Sweetheart Plant or Valentine Hoya, is loved for its thick, heart-shaped green leaves. Unlike the single rooted leaves often sold as novelty plants, this is a genuine vining specimen that will continue to grow, climb and produce new foliage over time.
Native to Southeast Asia, Hoya kerrii has succulent-like leaves that store water, making it relatively drought tolerant and easy to care for. As it matures, it develops long stems lined with distinctive green hearts and may eventually produce clusters of star-shaped flowers.
Light & Position
Prefers bright, indirect light. A little gentle morning or evening sun can help encourage strong growth, but avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight.
Watering
Allow the compost to dry partially between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow any excess to drain away. Water more sparingly during winter.
Care
Feed every few weeks during spring and summer with a diluted houseplant fertiliser. Allow the stems to trail naturally or provide a support for the plant to climb as it grows.
Why you'll love it
- Distinctive heart-shaped leaves
- Genuine growing and vining specimen
- Drought tolerant and easy to care for
- Perfect gift for plant lovers

Care Instructions
Light
Place in bright, indirect light. A little gentle morning or evening sun can encourage flowering, but avoid prolonged harsh midday sun, which may scorch the leaves.
Water
Water thoroughly, then allow the top few centimetres of compost to dry before watering again. This plant stores moisture in its fleshy leaves and prefers to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering during winter.
Food
Feed once a month during spring and summer with a quality liquid houseplant fertiliser. Regular feeding encourages healthy growth, strong roots and more reliable flowering.
Humidity
This plant is happy in average household humidity but appreciates slightly higher humidity where possible. Good air circulation is equally important for healthy growth. Avoid excessive misting.
