Hoya 'Flamingo Dream' (9cm pot)

Hoya carnosa ‘Flamingo Dream’ is a striking variegated Wax Plant with thick, glossy green leaves edged and marbled in creamy white. Fresh growth can emerge in vivid shades of pink and fuchsia, creating a colourful contrast that becomes especially noticeable in bright conditions.

Its flexible stems can be allowed to trail naturally from a shelf or elevated planter, or trained around a hoop, trellis or other support for a climbing display.

Light & Position

Give ‘Flamingo Dream’ plenty of bright, indirect light. A little gentle morning or evening sun can help maintain strong variegation and encourage the brightest pink colouring in new growth.

Avoid prolonged harsh midday sunlight through glass, which can scorch the paler areas of the leaves.

Watering

Allow most of the compost to dry before watering thoroughly, then let all excess water drain away. Hoya carnosa has thick, waxy leaves that store moisture, so it is much more tolerant of being kept slightly dry than of sitting in wet compost.

Water more sparingly during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.

Humidity & Temperature

Hoya carnosa adapts well to normal household humidity and does not require regular misting. Keep in warm indoor conditions and away from cold draughts.

Feeding

Feed lightly approximately once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser while the plant is actively growing. Reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter.

Flowers

Mature plants grown in good light can produce rounded clusters of fragrant, waxy star-shaped flowers in pink and white tones.

After flowering, avoid removing the short flower spurs, as Hoyas can bloom again from the same points in future.

Trailing or Climbing?

Hoya carnosa ‘Flamingo Dream’ can be grown either trailing or climbing. Let the stems cascade from a high shelf, or guide them around a small support as they lengthen.
