Hoya callistophylla
Wax Plant
🚚 Free UK shipping on orders over £50 🪴
Hoya callistophylla is a striking and rarely seen Hoya, prized for its thick, lustrous green leaves and extraordinary dark veining. The bold pattern becomes increasingly pronounced as the leaves mature, giving this beautiful collector’s plant an almost prehistoric appearance.
Native to Borneo, Hoya callistophylla is a climbing plant that can be trained around a hoop or trellis, or allowed to trail naturally from a shelf or hanging planter. Given warmth, good light and time to mature, it may also produce attractive clusters of star-shaped Hoya flowers.
Place in bright, indirect light and water when the upper few centimetres of compost have dried. Use a free-draining compost, avoid leaving the plant sitting in water and feed once a month during spring and summer. Higher humidity is appreciated, but good airflow and careful watering are equally important.

Care Instructions
Light
Place in bright, indirect light. A little gentle morning or evening sun can encourage flowering, but avoid prolonged harsh midday sun, which may scorch the leaves.
Water
Water thoroughly, then allow the top few centimetres of compost to dry before watering again. This plant stores moisture in its fleshy leaves and prefers to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering during winter.
Food
Feed once a month during spring and summer with a quality liquid houseplant fertiliser. Regular feeding encourages healthy growth, strong roots and more reliable flowering.
Humidity
This plant is happy in average household humidity but appreciates slightly higher humidity where possible. Good air circulation is equally important for healthy growth. Avoid excessive misting.
