Hoya lanceolata subsp. bella, commonly known as Hoya bella or the Beautiful Wax Plant, is a graceful trailing Hoya with slender stems and narrow, fleshy green leaves. Its naturally cascading growth makes it especially attractive on a high shelf, plant stand or other position where the stems have room to trail.
When mature and grown in good light, Hoya bella can produce beautiful hanging clusters of fragrant, star-shaped white flowers with contrasting pink to purple centres. The waxy blooms are one of the plant's greatest attractions and can appear repeatedly from established flower spurs.
Light & Position
Prefers bright, indirect or filtered light. Good light is particularly important for encouraging flowering, although prolonged strong summer sun can scorch the foliage. A bright position close to a window without intense midday sun is ideal.
Watering
Water thoroughly once the upper layer of compost has dried, then allow excess water to drain away. Hoya bella prefers more consistent moisture than some thicker-leaved Hoyas, but it should never sit in waterlogged compost.
Reduce watering during winter, allowing the compost to become somewhat drier between waterings while avoiding prolonged complete dryness.
Humidity & Temperature
Hoya bella appreciates moderate to higher humidity and warm, stable indoor conditions, ideally around 16–24°C during active growth. Keep away from cold draughts, radiators and other direct heat sources.
Feeding
Feed lightly approximately every two weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid feed or suitable orchid fertiliser while the plant is actively growing. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter.
Flowering
For the best chance of flowers, give the plant plenty of bright indirect light and avoid frequently moving it once buds have formed. After flowering, do not remove the old flower spurs, as new clusters can develop from the same points in future.
Trailing or Climbing?
Hoya bella has a naturally trailing habit and looks particularly beautiful cascading from a shelf or elevated planter. It can also be lightly trained around a small support if you prefer a more structured display.

Care Instructions
Light
Place in bright, indirect light. A little gentle morning or evening sun can encourage flowering, but avoid prolonged harsh midday sun, which may scorch the leaves.
Water
Water thoroughly, then allow the top few centimetres of compost to dry before watering again. This plant stores moisture in its fleshy leaves and prefers to dry slightly between waterings. Reduce watering during winter.
Food
Feed once a month during spring and summer with a quality liquid houseplant fertiliser. Regular feeding encourages healthy growth, strong roots and more reliable flowering.
Humidity
This plant is happy in average household humidity but appreciates slightly higher humidity where possible. Good air circulation is equally important for healthy growth. Avoid excessive misting.
