Hedera helix 'Wilco' (hangpot)

Hedera helix ‘Wilco’ is a lush trailing English Ivy with dense evergreen foliage and long cascading stems. Supplied in a generous 19cm hanging pot with approximately 50cm of trailing growth, it creates immediate impact on a high shelf, plant hanger or outdoor wall.

Ivy is exceptionally versatile: it can be allowed to trail, encouraged to climb, or grown outdoors in containers and garden planting. Its evergreen foliage gives year-round structure and colour.

Light & Position

Indoors, place in moderate to bright indirect light. It will tolerate lower light, although growth may be slower and less dense.

A little gentle direct sun is usually fine, but avoid prolonged intense midday sun through glass. Outdoors, Hedera is far more adaptable and can grow in sun, partial shade or shade.

Watering

Water when the upper layer of compost begins to dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Aim to keep the compost lightly and evenly moist during active growth without leaving the roots permanently wet.

Reduce watering during cooler periods and never allow the pot to sit in standing water.

Humidity & Temperature

Ivy generally prefers cooler indoor conditions than many tropical houseplants and is happiest away from radiators and other strong heat sources.

Normal household humidity is usually sufficient and routine misting is not essential.

Trailing or Climbing?

Hedera naturally produces long trailing and climbing stems. Leave it to cascade from a hanging pot or high shelf, or guide the stems onto a suitable support for a climbing display.

Pruning

Trim back long or untidy stems whenever needed to keep the plant full and compact. Regular light pruning encourages branching and helps maintain a dense shape.

Indoor or Outdoor?

Hedera helix can be grown both indoors and outdoors. Outdoors it is a hardy evergreen climber and groundcover; indoors it makes an attractive trailing foliage plant, particularly in cooler rooms.
