add a pot to fit this plant

Hedera helix 'Jacobine', commonly known as English Ivy, is a compact evergreen ivy with rich green, deeply lobed foliage and naturally trailing or climbing growth. Its dense stems make it an excellent choice for shelves, plant stands, hanging displays and cooler rooms, while it can also be grown outdoors in containers or trained against a support.

'Jacobine' is an adaptable, fast-growing ivy that can be allowed to cascade naturally or encouraged to climb using its aerial roots. Regular trimming will help maintain a fuller, more compact shape.

Light & Position

Indoors, position in moderate to bright, indirect light. It will tolerate some shade, particularly because 'Jacobine' has predominantly green foliage. Avoid prolonged strong direct sunlight through glass.

Outdoors, English Ivy is very adaptable and is particularly useful in partial shade or shade. It can be grown in containers, used as ground cover or trained against suitable supports.

Watering

Water when the upper layer of compost has begun to dry, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Aim to keep the compost lightly moist rather than permanently wet. Reduce watering during cooler periods and avoid leaving the pot standing in water.

Temperature & Humidity

English Ivy generally prefers cooler indoor conditions than many tropical houseplants and is particularly well suited to bright, unheated or moderately heated rooms. Keep away from very hot radiators and excessively dry heat.

Pruning & Growth

Trim long stems whenever needed to control the size or encourage denser branching. Indoors it can be left to trail from a shelf or hanging position, while outdoors it can be trained to climb or used as evergreen ground cover.

Why You'll Love It

  • Rich green, deeply lobed evergreen foliage
  • Can be grown as a trailing or climbing plant
  • Suitable for both indoor and outdoor growing
  • Tolerates some shade
  • Easy to trim and shape
  • Provides year-round greenery outdoors

Pet & Child Safety

Hedera helix is harmful if eaten and the sap or foliage may irritate sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of pets and young children and wash your hands after pruning or handling if you have sensitive skin.
