Ficus elastica 'Tineke' (100cm)

Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’, commonly known as the Variegated Rubber Plant, is a striking statement houseplant with large, glossy leaves marbled in shades of deep green, pale green and creamy white. New growth can emerge with soft pink or reddish tones before maturing, adding even more colour to the foliage.

At approximately 100cm tall, this is an established specimen that brings immediate height and structure to a room. Its upright growth and broad leaves make it particularly effective beside a sofa, in a bright corner or as a focal plant in a larger living space.

Light & Position

Prefers bright, indirect or filtered light. Because ‘Tineke’ is variegated, good light helps maintain the strongest cream and green colouring. A little gentle morning or late-afternoon sun is usually fine, but avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the paler areas of the leaves.

Watering

Allow the upper 2–3cm of compost to dry before watering thoroughly, then let excess water drain away. Avoid keeping the compost permanently wet. Reduce watering during winter as growth slows.

Humidity & Temperature

Keep in warm, stable indoor conditions, ideally above approximately 15°C, and away from cold draughts or sudden temperature changes. Ficus elastica ‘Tineke’ adapts well to normal household humidity and does not require regular misting.

Feeding

Feed approximately once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser while the plant is actively growing. Reduce or stop feeding during winter.
