Ficus elastica 'Shivereana'

Ficus elastica ‘Shivereana’, commonly sold as the Moonshine Rubber Plant, is a distinctive variegated form of the classic Rubber Plant with glossy foliage marbled in soft lime green, cream and deeper green.

New leaves often emerge with a beautiful peachy-pink blush before gradually settling into their mature green and cream colouring. Because the variegation is irregular, no two leaves develop exactly the same pattern.

Light & Position

Give ‘Shivereana’ plenty of bright, indirect or filtered light to maintain strong variegation and healthy growth. A little gentle morning or evening sun can be beneficial, but avoid prolonged harsh midday sunlight through glass.

Lower light is tolerated for short periods, but growth will usually become slower and the foliage may lose some of its strongest colour contrast.

Watering

Allow the upper few centimetres of compost to dry before watering thoroughly, then let all excess water drain away. Avoid keeping the compost permanently wet, as Ficus roots are sensitive to waterlogging.

Water more sparingly during autumn and winter as growth slows.

Humidity & Temperature

Happy in normal household humidity and does not require regular misting. Keep in warm, stable indoor conditions and away from cold draughts, radiators and sudden temperature changes.

Feeding

Feed approximately once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser while the plant is actively growing. Reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter.

Leaf Care

Wipe the glossy leaves occasionally with a soft damp cloth to remove dust and show off the variegation. Avoid artificial leaf-shine products.
