Moonshine Rubber Plant
🚚 Free UK shipping on orders over £50 🪴
Ficus elastica ‘Shivereana’, often known as the Moonshine Rubber Plant, is a distinctive variegated form of the classic Rubber Plant with glossy leaves mottled in soft lime green, cream and deeper green. New foliage often emerges with a beautiful peachy-pink blush before gradually developing its mature colouring.
Supplied in an 11cm nursery pot at approximately 25cm tall, this is a compact young plant with plenty of character. Because the variegation develops differently on every leaf, each plant has its own individual mix of colour and pattern.
Light & Position
Give Ficus elastica ‘Shivereana’ plenty of bright, indirect or filtered light. Good natural light helps maintain the plant's pale variegation and encourages healthy, compact growth.
A little gentle morning or evening sunshine can be beneficial, but avoid prolonged harsh midday sun through glass, which may scorch the lighter areas of the leaves.
Watering
Allow the upper half of the compost to dry before watering thoroughly, then allow all excess water to drain away. Rubber Plants prefer a regular wet-to-dry watering cycle and should not be left sitting in permanently wet compost.
Water less frequently during autumn and winter when growth slows. If you're unsure whether it needs watering, it is generally safer to wait a little longer than to keep the roots continually wet.
Humidity & Temperature
Ficus elastica ‘Shivereana’ adapts well to normal household humidity and prefers warm, stable indoor conditions. Keep away from cold draughts, radiators and sudden changes in temperature.
Once you find a bright position where your Rubber Plant is growing happily, try to keep its conditions relatively consistent.
Feeding
Feed regularly during spring and summer while the plant is actively growing using a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser. Reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter.
Growth & Care
‘Shivereana’ has a naturally upright growth habit and can gradually develop into an impressive variegated indoor tree. New leaves emerge rolled from the growing tip, often displaying their strongest pink or peach colouring when young.
Occasionally wipe the foliage gently with a soft damp cloth to remove dust and keep the naturally glossy leaves looking their best. Turn the plant every few weeks if necessary to encourage balanced growth towards the light.
