Dischidia nummularia

Dischidia nummularia, commonly known as String of Nickels, is a trailing succulent houseplant with small, round, fleshy green leaves carried along long cascading stems. Its compact foliage gives it a neat, delicate appearance, making it especially well suited to hanging planters, shelves and other elevated positions.

In its natural habitat, Dischidia grows as an epiphytic plant in tropical regions of Asia and northern Australia. Indoors, it remains relatively easy to care for provided it receives good light and is allowed to dry slightly between waterings. Mature plants may occasionally produce tiny white flowers.

Light & Position

Prefers bright, indirect light. A position close to a bright window is ideal, but avoid prolonged strong direct sunlight. Its trailing habit makes it particularly effective in a hanging planter or on a high shelf where the stems have room to cascade.

Watering

Allow the top layer of compost to dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away. Water less frequently during winter and avoid leaving the plant sitting in wet compost.

Humidity & Temperature

Keep in a warm room away from cold draughts. Average household humidity is usually sufficient, although slightly higher humidity can be beneficial.
