Cyclamen ‘Dragon Deep Blue’

Cyclamen ‘Dragon Deep Blue’ is a remarkable new Cyclamen with intensely coloured deep violet-blue flowers held above beautifully marbled, dark green foliage. Part of Schoneveld Breeding's innovative Super Serie Dragon collection, it was developed as the world's first blue F1 Cyclamen and brings a genuinely unusual colour to autumn and winter plant displays.

Supplied in a 10.5cm diameter nursery pot at approximately 25cm tall, ‘Dragon Deep Blue’ has a compact, rounded shape with masses of flowers held neatly above the foliage. It makes a particularly striking flowering houseplant for a cool, bright room and is a brilliant choice if you are looking for something a little different from traditional pink, red and white Cyclamen.

Light & Position

Cyclamen ‘Dragon Deep Blue’ prefers a bright position with filtered light. A cool windowsill, bright hallway or other well-lit room away from strong midday sunshine is ideal.

Cyclamen particularly dislike hot, dry rooms, so avoid placing the plant directly beside radiators, fires or other heat sources. Cooler conditions will generally help the flowers last longer.

Watering

Keep the compost lightly moist while the plant is actively growing and flowering, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings.

For best results, water from below by standing the nursery pot in a shallow saucer of water for around 10 minutes, then allow it to drain thoroughly. Avoid repeatedly pouring water directly into the centre of the plant, where excess moisture around the tuber can encourage rot.

Never leave the plant permanently standing in water.

Temperature & Humidity

Cyclamen thrive in cooler indoor conditions. A temperature of around 13–18°C is ideal while the plant is flowering.

Normal household humidity is sufficient. Good air movement is helpful, but avoid strong cold draughts.

Feeding

Feed approximately every two weeks while the plant is actively growing and flowering using a diluted liquid houseplant fertiliser.

Reduce feeding once flowering finishes and the plant begins to enter its natural resting period.

Flowering & Care

‘Dragon Deep Blue’ produces its richly coloured flowers above a compact mound of marbled foliage, with flowering concentrated through the cooler months.

Remove faded flowers and yellowing leaves by gently twisting the entire stem and pulling it cleanly from the base rather than cutting it halfway down. This keeps the crown tidy and reduces the amount of dying plant material left around the tuber.

What Happens After Flowering?

Cyclamen persicum naturally enters a period of dormancy after flowering. As spring progresses, the foliage may begin to yellow and die back. This is part of the plant's normal life cycle rather than necessarily a sign that it has died.

Gradually reduce watering as the leaves fade. Keep the tuber relatively dry during its resting period, then begin watering again when fresh growth appears later in the year.

Can It Grow Outdoors?

Cyclamen ‘Dragon Deep Blue’ can enjoy a cool, sheltered outdoor position while temperatures remain mild, and can look beautiful on a protected doorstep, balcony or covered patio.

However, this is a tender Cyclamen persicum rather than a hardy garden Cyclamen. It should be protected from frost and we would not recommend leaving it outdoors through an Edinburgh winter.
