Cycas revoluta, commonly known as the Sago Palm, is a slow-growing architectural houseplant prized for its symmetrical crown of glossy green fronds and distinctive woody trunk. Despite its name and palm-like appearance, it isn't actually a palm but a cycad, an ancient group of seed plants that has existed for millions of years.
Its sculptural form makes it an excellent statement plant for bright living spaces, hallways and offices. Exceptionally long-lived and easy to care for, Cycas revoluta develops increasing character with age, making it a timeless addition to both contemporary and traditional interiors.
Position in bright, indirect light for best growth, although it will tolerate lighter shade. Allow the top of the compost to dry before watering, taking care not to wet the trunk (caudex). Avoid cold draughts, rotate occasionally to encourage even growth, and feed with a houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer.
