Jade Plant

The Crassula ovata 'Minor', also known as the Jade Plant or Money Plant, is a charming, compact succulent with glossy, fleshy green leaves and a miniature tree-like appearance. A smaller-leaved variety of the classic Jade Plant, it develops a beautifully branched shape over time, with leaves that can take on attractive reddish edges when exposed to plenty of sunlight.
Native to southern Africa, Jade Plants have long been associated with good fortune, prosperity and friendship, making them popular housewarming gifts. Their ability to store water in their thick leaves also makes them wonderfully resilient and easy to care for, perfect for beginners and experienced plant collectors alike.

What Makes Crassula ovata 'Minor' Special?
Unlike the larger, broad-leaved Jade Plant, 'Minor' produces smaller, rounded leaves on densely branching stems, creating a naturally compact, almost bonsai-like silhouette. Its glossy foliage and sturdy, sculptural form make it a lovely addition to sunny windowsills, desks and shelves. Given time and the right conditions, it can develop into a beautiful miniature tree with a thick, woody trunk.
Crassula ovata 'Minor' Care Guide
Light & Position
Prefers a bright position with plenty of natural light and can enjoy several hours of direct sunshine each day. A south- or west-facing windowsill is ideal. Strong light encourages compact growth and can bring out attractive red tones around the leaf edges. Introduce plants gradually to intense direct sunlight to avoid scorching.
Watering
Allow the compost to dry out completely between waterings, then water thoroughly and let any excess drain away. Reduce watering significantly during winter when growth slows. Jade Plants are much happier being kept slightly too dry than too wet, as overwatering can cause root rot.
Humidity & Temperature
Thrives in normal household humidity and prefers warm, dry conditions. No misting is necessary. Keep away from cold draughts and protect from temperatures below 10°C.
Feeding
Feed occasionally during spring and summer with a diluted cactus and succulent fertiliser to support healthy growth. There is no need to feed during autumn and winter.
Compost & Repotting
Plant in a free-draining cactus and succulent compost and always use a pot with drainage holes. Jade Plants are relatively slow-growing and only need repotting when their roots have outgrown the nursery pot, ideally in spring.
