Cleistocactus colademononis, commonly known as the Monkey Tail Cactus, is a wonderfully tactile and unusual species with thick, trailing stems covered in long, soft, white hair-like spines. As it grows, the stems develop a gently curling, cascading habit, making it an eye-catching choice for shelves or hanging planters.
Despite its cactus nature, the soft spines give it a surprisingly plush appearance, adding texture and movement to your space. Mature plants can produce vibrant pink to red tubular flowers in the warmer months, adding an extra layer of interest.
Care & styling tips
Place in a bright position with plenty of light, including direct sun. Water thoroughly during the growing season, allowing the compost to dry out completely between waterings. In winter, reduce watering significantly. Ensure good drainage and avoid sitting in water.
