Capsule Planted Terrarium
The Capsule Planted Terrarium is a compact closed terrarium filled with a changing selection of small tropical plants, moss and natural details, all contained within a beautifully rounded glass vessel with a cork lid. Each one creates its own miniature living landscape and will vary slightly from the next.
At approximately 17cm wide × 17cm high, it is easy to find a home for on a shelf, desk, side table or mantel. Once established, the enclosed environment continually recycles moisture, making it wonderfully low maintenance and a particularly lovely living gift.
How Does a Closed Terrarium Work?
Once sealed, moisture circulates between the compost, plants and glass, creating a naturally humid miniature growing environment. Water evaporates, condenses against the glass and returns to the growing medium, so a well-balanced closed terrarium requires very little additional watering.
A little condensation on part of the glass is completely normal and is a good sign that the miniature ecosystem is working as it should.
Light & Position
Place your terrarium in bright, indirect light, somewhere with plenty of natural daylight but away from prolonged direct sunshine.
Direct sun can heat the glass surprisingly quickly and may scorch or overheat the plants inside. Keep the terrarium away from radiators and other strong heat sources, and avoid very dark positions.
Watering
A closed terrarium should need very little watering. If there has been little or no condensation for several days and the compost appears dry, remove the cork and add only a small amount of water using a fine mister.
Avoid pouring water directly into the vessel. It is much easier to add a little more moisture later than to correct an overwatered terrarium.
What If There Is Too Much Condensation?
If the glass remains heavily fogged or covered in large droplets throughout the day, remove the cork for a few hours to allow some excess moisture to escape.
Replace the lid once the condensation has reduced. Occasional light misting on the glass is normal and does not need to be wiped away.
Feeding & Maintenance
There is generally no need to feed a closed terrarium. Fertiliser encourages faster growth, which is usually the opposite of what we want inside a small enclosed landscape.
Simply remove any yellowing or damaged foliage when needed and trim plants lightly if they begin to outgrow the available space.

Care Instructions
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Do not place in direct sunlight as this can scorch the plants and also create too high a temperature inside the vessel.
Water
Terrariums rarely require watering if kept sealed. If the soil looks dry, mist water in to the vessel. Pouring water can cause a muddy splash!
Food
Generally, the plants inside a terrarium do not need fed as this can cause them to quickly outgrow the space.
Humidity
If condensation appears on the glass remove the cork until this clears. Too much water in the tearrium will cause the plants to rot.
