Calathea makoyana — commonly known as the Peacock Plant — is admired for its elegant, glossy leaves featuring intricate feathered patterns of light and dark green with deep purple undersides.
Native to the tropical rainforests of South America, this species thrives in warm, humid environments and is part of the Marantaceae family, known for its fascinating ability to move its leaves in response to light — a behaviour called nastic movement.

Care Guide:
Provide bright, indirect light and keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Mist regularly or use a humidifier to maintain humidity. Feed every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertiliser.

Care Instructions
Light
Position out of any direct sunight! If in a shadier spot, the plant will offer less growth and require less water.
Water
Thoroughly water, then allow the top 3 to 4cm of compost to dry before re-watering. Water less in winter when the plant is growing more slowly. Over-watering can cause root rot.
Food
Feed every second time you water through spring and summer with a quality liquid plant food. There is no need to feed this plant in winter.
Humidity
This plant enjoys humidity. Place in a bathroom and/or mist regularly with water.
