Beaucarnea recurvata (21cm pot)

Beaucarnea recurvata, commonly known as the Ponytail Palm, is an architectural houseplant loved for its distinctive swollen trunk and fountain of long, gracefully arching leaves. Native to the dry regions of Mexico, its unusual appearance brings character and a sculptural feel to living rooms, bedrooms, home offices and bright hallways.

Despite its tropical appearance, the Ponytail Palm is one of the easiest large houseplants to care for. Its enlarged trunk stores water, allowing it to cope well with occasional neglect, making it an excellent choice for busy homes or anyone new to houseplants. Given the right conditions, it is an incredibly long-lived plant that becomes even more impressive with age.

Position in a bright spot with plenty of indirect light, although it will also tolerate some direct sunshine. Water thoroughly, then allow the compost to dry out completely before watering again. Avoid pouring water directly onto the swollen trunk and never allow the plant to sit in water. Reduce watering significantly during winter and feed once a month during spring and summer with a quality liquid houseplant fertiliser.
