The Balle Planted Terrarium – Aged Cork creates a miniature living landscape inside a beautifully rounded glass vessel, finished with a substantial aged cork lid. Planted with a changing selection of small tropical plants, each terrarium is individually composed and will vary slightly, making every one unique.

Designed as a closed terrarium, the sealed environment recycles moisture between the compost, plants and glass. Once the moisture level has settled, it requires very little watering, making it an impressive but surprisingly low-maintenance way to enjoy indoor plants.

Where to Position Your Terrarium

Place in bright, indirect light, away from strong direct sunlight and heat sources such as radiators. Direct sun can quickly raise the temperature inside the sealed glass and damage the plants.

A position with plenty of natural light but no prolonged direct sun is ideal. Avoid very dark corners, as the plants still need sufficient light to grow.

How to Water a Closed Terrarium

A healthy closed terrarium should need very little additional water. Light condensation on part of the glass is normal and shows that moisture is circulating within the terrarium.

If there has been no condensation for several days and the compost appears dry, remove the cork and add only a small amount of water using a fine mister. It is much easier to add more water later than to correct an overwatered terrarium.

What If There Is Too Much Condensation?

If the glass remains heavily misted or covered with large water droplets throughout the day, remove the cork for a few hours to allow some excess moisture to escape. Replace the lid once the condensation has reduced.

Occasional light condensation is part of a healthy closed terrarium and does not need to be wiped away.

Care Instructions

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light. Do not place in direct sunlight as this can scorch the plants and also create too high a temperature inside the vessel.

Water

Terrariums rarely require watering if kept sealed. If the soil looks dry, mist water in to the vessel. Pouring water can cause a muddy splash!

Food

Generally, the plants inside a terrarium do not need fed as this can cause them to quickly outgrow the space.

Humidity

If condensation appears on the glass remove the cork until this clears. Too much water in the tearrium will cause the plants to rot.
