Asplenium scolopendrium

Asplenium scolopendrium, commonly known as Hart’s Tongue Fern, is a striking evergreen fern with long, glossy, undivided fronds that bring a bold, architectural feel to shaded spaces.

Unlike more delicate ferns, its broad, tongue-shaped leaves create a clean, sculptural look that works beautifully in contemporary gardens, as well as more traditional or woodland-style planting. It’s perfect for brightening darker corners, adding texture to borders, or softening patios and courtyards.

This hardy fern is particularly effective when planted in groups or paired with other shade-loving plants such as hostas and heuchera.

Position: Partial to full shade. Avoid strong, direct afternoon sun.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Will tolerate slightly alkaline conditions.
Care: Very low maintenance. Remove any damaged or tired fronds in spring to keep the plant looking fresh.
