Aporocactus x mallisonii

Aporocactus × mallisonii, commonly known as the Rat Tail Cactus, is a striking trailing cactus with long, slender stems that cascade beautifully over time. Its pendant growth habit makes it ideal for hanging planters or high shelves, where the stems can reach impressive lengths as the plant matures.

In spring and early summer, established plants can produce vivid pink-red tubular flowers, adding a bold burst of colour to its sculptural form. Easy-going and fast-growing, it’s a great choice if you’re looking for something a little more unusual but still low maintenance.

Care & styling tips
Place in bright, indirect light, with some gentle direct sun tolerated. Water thoroughly once the compost has fully dried out, allowing excess water to drain away. Prefers warmth and will benefit from a drier rest period in winter. Feed fortnightly during the growing season with a cactus fertiliser.
