Anthurium clarinervium is a striking and highly sought-after velvet-leaf anthurium, prized for its thick, heart-shaped leaves and dramatic white veining. Native to Mexico, this species stands apart from flowering anthuriums, grown instead for its bold, sculptural foliage.

The deep green leaves have a soft, velvety texture with bright contrasting veins, giving the plant an almost graphic quality. Compact in size but full of character, it’s a favourite among collectors and works beautifully in smaller spaces where detail and texture can be appreciated up close.

Like many anthuriums, Anthurium clarinervium originates from warm, humid environments and benefits from similar conditions in the home. It prefers bright, indirect light and a free-draining compost, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. Good humidity will help maintain healthy, well-formed leaves.

While the Anthurium genus is often associated with colourful, long-lasting blooms (known as spathes), this species is grown primarily for its foliage, making it a true collector’s houseplant.
