Light & Position

Choose bright, filtered light. Turn the pot regularly to encourage upright growth, and support heavy flower stems with a stake if needed.

Watering

Water sparingly initially, increasing as growth develops. Check the compost rather than following a fixed schedule: water when the surface begins to dry, keeping it lightly moist during active growth.

Avoid soaking the bulb's neck or leaving water collected beneath the pot.

Humidity & Temperature

Normal household humidity is suitable. Warmth around 20–21°C encourages growth. Once flowers open, a cooler position around 15–18°C, away from radiators, helps prolong the display.

Feeding

Feed during active leafy growth with a balanced liquid fertiliser, following the manufacturer's instructions. Continue after flowering to help the bulb rebuild its reserves.

After Flowering

Remove spent flower stalks but keep the green leaves. Continue watering and feeding through summer. A cooler autumn rest with reduced watering can help encourage flowering again.

Repotting

Repot every two to three years after flowering, using free-draining compost and a pot with drainage holes. Choose a container only slightly wider than the bulb, leaving its neck and upper portion exposed.
