add a pot to fit this plant

Alocasia ‘Platinum’ is a striking and highly sought-after houseplant, prized for its extraordinary metallic silver foliage. Its broad, sculptural leaves have an almost liquid sheen, giving the plant a futuristic appearance that sets it apart from more traditional Alocasia varieties.

This is a well-established plant in an 11cm pot, offering an excellent example of this unusual collector's variety. Its dramatic silver colouring creates a stunning contrast against darker foliage plants and makes an immediate statement in any indoor plant collection.

Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, Alocasia are admired for their bold architectural growth and exotic appearance. Alocasia ‘Platinum’ is particularly desirable thanks to its unique silvery foliage, which appears almost metallic when viewed in bright, indirect light.

Like all Alocasia, it grows from tuberous rhizomes that store water and nutrients. Allow the compost to dry slightly between waterings and avoid leaving the plant sitting in water. A warm position above 16°C, away from cold draughts, will help encourage healthy growth.

For best results, place in bright, indirect light. While higher humidity can be beneficial, consistent watering and good light levels are far more important to long-term success.

Care Instructions

Light

Prefers moderate to bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can result in scorched leaves.

Water

Water thoroughly, then allow the top half of the compost to dry out completely before rewatering. This plant stores water and therefore overwatering can cause root rot.

Food

Apply a high quality liquid fertiliser fortnightly in the spring and summer. Do not feed in the autumn and winter months.

Humidity

This plant enjoys high humidity. Place in a bathroom and/or mist regularly with water. Or place on a pebble tray filled with water just below the top of the pebbles.
