add a pot to fit this plant

Aglaonema ‘Cherry Baby’ is a wonderfully colourful Chinese Evergreen with lush green foliage splashed and flushed with vibrant shades of pink, red and rosy coral. Compact, tropical and exceptionally easy to live with, it is a brilliant houseplant for adding a burst of colour without demanding complicated care.

Supplied in a 12cm diameter nursery pot at approximately 30cm tall, ‘Cherry Baby’ has a naturally bushy, leafy shape that works beautifully on shelves, side tables, desks and plant stands. Like other Aglaonema, it is relatively tolerant of indoor conditions, making it a particularly good choice for newer plant owners.

What Makes ‘Cherry Baby’ Special?

The striking foliage is the main attraction. Each leaf combines fresh green with vivid pink and reddish tones, creating a much warmer and more colourful appearance than traditional green Aglaonema varieties.

The exact balance and intensity of colour varies naturally from leaf to leaf, meaning every plant has its own slightly different pattern.

Light & Position

Aglaonema ‘Cherry Baby’ grows best in bright, indirect light. A position close to an east- or west-facing window is ideal, or place it slightly further back from a particularly bright south-facing window.

It will tolerate lower light levels, but brighter varieties such as ‘Cherry Baby’ generally retain their strongest pink and red colouring when given plenty of filtered light. Avoid prolonged strong direct sunshine, which can scorch the leaves.

Watering

Allow the upper few centimetres of compost to dry before watering again. Aglaonema prefer to dry slightly between waterings rather than remaining constantly wet.

Water thoroughly, allowing excess water to drain freely from the nursery pot. Avoid leaving the plant standing in water, as consistently waterlogged compost can damage the roots.

Growth slows during autumn and winter, so the plant will usually require less frequent watering during the cooler months.

Humidity & Temperature

Normal household humidity is generally suitable, although ‘Cherry Baby’ will appreciate slightly higher humidity if your home is particularly warm or dry.

Keep the plant in a comfortably warm position, ideally around 18–25°C. Avoid cold draughts, sudden temperature changes and prolonged exposure to temperatures below around 15°C.

Feeding

Feed approximately once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser, diluted according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Feeding can be reduced or stopped during winter when growth naturally slows.

Repotting

Aglaonema are not particularly fast-growing and generally do not need repotting every year. Repot when the roots have begun to fill the nursery pot, usually moving up by only one pot size at a time.

Use a free-draining houseplant compost and make sure the new pot has adequate drainage.

Why You'll Love It

  • Beautiful pink, red and green foliage
  • Compact, naturally bushy growth
  • Easy-care and forgiving houseplant
  • Tolerates a range of indoor light conditions
  • Excellent for adding colour without relying on flowers
  • Ideal for shelves, desks, side tables and smaller spaces
  • A great choice for both beginners and experienced plant owners

Pet & Child Safety

Aglaonema are harmful if eaten and contain calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation of the mouth and digestive system. Keep the plant out of reach of pets and young children and discourage chewing or ingestion.

Care Instructions

Light

Prefers indirect bright light and will tolerate direct sunlight in the morning or evening. If positioned in a shadier spot the plant will offer less growth and require less water.

Water

Thoroughly water, then allow the top few centimeters of compost to dry before re-watering. Water less in winter when the plant is growing more slowly. Over-watering can cause root rot.

Food

Feed every second time you water through spring and summer with a quality liquid plant food. There is no need to feed this plant in winter.

Humidity

This plant enjoys humidity. Place in a bathroom and/or mist regularly with water. Remove dust from the leaves with a damp cloth to improve photosynthesis.
