Aeschynanthus lobbianus 'Variegatus', commonly known as the Variegated Lipstick Plant, is a striking trailing houseplant with fleshy green leaves patterned with irregular cream-white variegation. Its long cascading stems make it particularly effective in a hanging planter or on a high shelf where the foliage has room to trail.
Like other Lipstick Plants, it can produce distinctive tubular red flowers that emerge from the ends of established stems, creating a vivid contrast against the variegated foliage. Flowering is most likely when the plant receives plenty of bright, filtered light and consistent warmth.
Light & Position
Prefers bright, indirect or filtered light. Good light will encourage healthy growth, strong variegation and flowering, but avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight which may scorch the foliage. Its trailing habit makes it ideal for hanging planters, shelves and other elevated positions.
Watering
Water regularly during spring and summer, allowing the top layer of compost to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain away rather than leaving the roots sitting in wet compost. Reduce watering during winter as growth slows.
Humidity & Temperature
Keep in a warm room, ideally above 15°C, and away from cold draughts. As a tropical epiphytic plant, Aeschynanthus appreciates moderate to higher humidity, although regular misting is not essential if the surrounding conditions are suitable.
Feeding
Feed approximately once a month with a diluted liquid houseplant fertiliser from mid spring to late summer while the plant is actively growing.

Care Instructions
Light
Prefers indirect bright light and will tolerate direct sunlight in the morning or evening. If positioned in a shadier spot the plant will offer less growth and require less water.
Water
Thoroughly water, then allow the top few centimeters of compost to dry before re-watering. Water less in winter when the plant is growing more slowly. Over-watering can cause root rot.
Food
Feed every second time you water through spring and summer with a quality liquid plant food. There is no need to feed this plant in winter.
Humidity
This plant enjoys humidity. Place in a bathroom and/or mist regularly with water. Remove dust from the leaves with a damp cloth to improve photosynthesis.
