Adenium arabicum 'Baobab'

Adenium arabicum ‘Baobab’, commonly known as the Desert Rose, is a striking succulent prized for its thick, sculptural caudex and branching form, which can resemble a miniature baobab tree.

Its swollen trunk stores water, allowing the plant to cope with prolonged dry periods and giving every specimen its own distinctive shape. With age, the caudex becomes increasingly characterful, making this an especially appealing plant for collectors and anyone drawn to unusual architectural houseplants.

Light & Position

Give your Adenium the brightest, warmest position available. Several hours of direct sunlight is ideal and helps encourage compact growth and flowering. A sunny south- or west-facing windowsill is particularly well suited.

Watering

Allow the compost to dry out thoroughly between waterings, then water well and let all excess water drain away. Its fleshy caudex stores moisture, so overwatering is a much greater risk than occasional dryness.

Water much more sparingly during autumn and winter, particularly if the plant slows down or drops some of its leaves.

Temperature

Adenium loves warmth and should be protected from cold temperatures and draughts. Keep it in a warm indoor position, especially during winter.

Feeding

Feed lightly approximately once a month during spring and summer while the plant is actively growing. Reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter.
