Acer palmatum ‘Sango-kaku’, commonly known as the Coral Bark Japanese Maple, is a stunning ornamental tree prized for its delicate foliage and vibrant coral-red stems. Fresh lime-green leaves emerge in spring, creating a soft, luminous canopy that brings beautiful colour and texture to gardens, terraces and outdoor containers.
As the seasons change, the foliage develops warm golden tones before falling in autumn, while the distinctive coral bark becomes even more striking during the colder months. This elegant Japanese maple makes a wonderful architectural focal point for patios, entrances or sheltered garden spaces.
Plant in well-drained soil in a position with partial shade or gentle morning sun, protecting the delicate foliage from strong midday sun and harsh winds. Water regularly during the growing season, especially if planted in a container. Japanese maples naturally form beautiful branching structures, so pruning is rarely necessary.
