The Ficus Ginseng Bonsai Terrarium – Aged Cork combines the sculptural form of a miniature Ficus tree with a contemporary planted glass terrarium. At its centre is a Ficus microcarpa 'Ginseng', instantly recognisable by its thick, characterful trunk and glossy green foliage, surrounded by complementary planting to create a miniature indoor landscape.

Finished with a substantial aged cork lid, the tall glass vessel creates a humid growing environment around the plants while giving the Ficus plenty of visual impact. Each terrarium is individually planted, so the exact shape of the tree, moss and accompanying plants will naturally vary.

Where to Position Your Bonsai Terrarium

Place in bright, indirect or filtered light. Ficus needs good natural light to remain healthy, but avoid prolonged strong direct sunlight, which can rapidly overheat the glass vessel.

Keep away from radiators, cold draughts and other areas with large temperature fluctuations. A warm, bright room with relatively stable conditions is ideal.

How to Water Your Bonsai Terrarium

The enclosed environment retains moisture extremely well, so this terrarium should need only occasional watering. Check the compost and condensation rather than watering to a fixed schedule.

Light condensation on part of the glass is normal. If there has been little or no condensation for several days and the compost is beginning to look dry, remove the cork and add a small amount of water using a fine mister. Avoid saturating the compost or allowing water to collect at the bottom of the vessel.

What If There Is Too Much Condensation?

If the glass remains heavily fogged or covered in large droplets throughout the day, remove the cork for a few hours to allow excess moisture to escape. Replace the lid once the glass has largely cleared.

Ficus prefers moist but well-drained growing conditions, so avoiding persistent excess moisture is particularly important with this terrarium.

Does a Bonsai Terrarium Need Feeding?

Generally, additional feeding is unnecessary. The aim is to maintain compact, controlled growth within the terrarium rather than encourage the Ficus and surrounding plants to grow rapidly and outgrow the vessel.

Care Instructions

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light. Do not place in direct sunlight as this can scorch the plants and also create too high a temperature inside the vessel.

Water

Terrariums rarely require watering if kept sealed. If the soil looks dry, mist water in to the vessel. Pouring water can cause a muddy splash!

Food

Generally, the plants inside a terrarium do not need fed as this can cause them to quickly outgrow the space.

Humidity

If condensation appears on the glass remove the cork until this clears. Too much water in the tearrium will cause the plants to rot.
