Sedum makinoi ‘Tornado’

Sedum makinoi ‘Tornado’, also known as Japanese Stonecrop, is a compact, low-growing succulent with tightly packed clusters of glossy, rounded leaves. Its distinctive swirling growth creates a soft, textured appearance, while brighter light can bring out attractive bronze and burgundy tones in the foliage.

This easy-care succulent thrives in bright light and benefits from some direct sun. Its gently trailing habit makes it ideal for sunny windowsills, shelves and mixed succulent displays. During the warmer months, Sedum makinoi ‘Tornado’ will also happily enjoy a sunny patio or balcony.

Light & Position

Give ‘Tornado’ plenty of bright light, ideally with some gentle direct sun. Good light helps maintain compact growth and encourages the richest foliage colour.

Watering

Water thoroughly, then allow the compost to dry out well before watering again. Sedum stores water in its fleshy leaves, so it is much more tolerant of being kept a little dry than of sitting in wet compost.

Water more sparingly during autumn and winter when growth slows.

Feeding

Feed lightly approximately once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser while the plant is actively growing.

Indoors or Outdoors?

‘Tornado’ is ideal as a houseplant but can also be grown outdoors during the warmer months. In most parts of the UK, we recommend bringing container-grown plants indoors or into a protected position before prolonged hard frost.
