add a pot to fit this plant

Sansevieria ‘Fernwood’, commonly known as the Mini Snake Plant, is a compact and sculptural houseplant with narrow, upright leaves patterned in rich green tones. Its dense, fountain-like shape makes it especially well suited to desks, shelves, bedside tables and other smaller spaces.

Snake Plants are now generally grouped botanically within the Dracaena genus, but Sansevieria remains the familiar name used by most growers and plant lovers. ‘Fernwood’ is prized for its slender, upright foliage and exceptionally easy-care nature.

Light & Position

Prefers bright, indirect or filtered light but will tolerate lower light conditions surprisingly well. Growth will usually be stronger and more compact in good light. Avoid prolonged harsh midday sun, which can scorch the foliage.

Watering

Allow the compost to dry out thoroughly before watering again. Snake Plants store water in their fleshy leaves and are far more tolerant of dryness than overwatering. Water sparingly, especially during winter, and never allow the pot to sit in water.

Humidity & Temperature

Prefers normal to low household humidity and does not need misting. Keep in typical warm indoor temperatures, ideally above approximately 15°C, and away from cold draughts.

Feeding

Feed lightly approximately once a month during spring and summer with a diluted houseplant or cactus fertiliser while the plant is actively growing. Reduce or stop feeding during winter.

Repotting

Sansevieria ‘Fernwood’ is happy to remain fairly snug in its pot and does not need frequent repotting. Move it into a slightly larger pot only when the roots have clearly filled the existing container, using a free-draining houseplant or cactus compost.

Why You'll Love It

  • Compact size ideal for desks and shelves
  • Sculptural upright green foliage
  • Very drought-tolerant and forgiving
  • Tolerates lower light better than many houseplants
  • Needs very little watering
  • Excellent choice for beginners

Pet & Child Safety

Snake Plants are harmful if eaten and the sap can irritate sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of pets and young children.
