Native to northern Mexico, the Bunny Ear Cactus (Opuntia microdasys) is a cheerful, sculptural houseplant known for its distinctive paired pads that resemble little ears. Each new segment grows in matching pairs, giving this cactus its playful, eye-catching shape. In the right conditions it can even produce delicate blooms from the tips of its pads.
This cactus loves bright light and is happiest on a sunny windowsill, though it’s best to offer a little protection from intense summer sun. Water sparingly from April to September, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Keep completely dry through winter when the plant rests. Feed every two weeks during spring and summer for steady, healthy growth.
A low-maintenance choice with tons of character, the Bunny Ear Cactus is ideal for beginners, collectors or anyone wanting a bold desert look at home.
