Hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris, commonly known as Climbing Hydrangea, is a beautiful, self-clinging climber grown for its delicate white lacecap flowers and lush green foliage.

Flowering in early to mid summer, the flat, creamy-white blooms stand out beautifully against the foliage, bringing a soft, elegant feel to walls, fences and shaded garden areas. As it matures, it forms a dense, leafy covering that adds structure and interest throughout the year.

This is one of the best climbers for shade, thriving where many other plants struggle. It will slowly establish before putting on stronger growth, eventually becoming a striking feature plant.

Position: Partial shade to full shade, though it will tolerate some sun if the soil remains moist.
Watering: Keep well-watered while establishing, especially in dry periods.
Soil: Moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter.
Care: Low maintenance. Can be lightly trimmed after flowering if needed. Allow time to establish before expecting rapid growth.

Good to know: A self-clinging climber that attaches to walls and fences using aerial roots. Slow to establish, but extremely rewarding over time, eventually creating a beautiful, leafy backdrop.
