Alocasia ‘Silver Dragon’ is one of the most sought-after and unusual houseplants, prized for its striking silver-green foliage and dramatic dark veining. The heavily textured leaves resemble dragon scales, giving this rare Alocasia its distinctive name. Compact in size yet full of character, it makes a stunning statement plant for shelves, desks and smaller spaces.

Commonly known as an Elephant Ear Plant, Alocasia species are native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia and Eastern Australia. Their exotic foliage and architectural form have made them favourites among houseplant collectors and indoor plant enthusiasts.

Like many Alocasia varieties, Alocasia Silver Dragon grows from underground rhizomes that store water and nutrients. This means the plant is more susceptible to overwatering than many other houseplants. Allow the compost to partially dry between waterings and avoid leaving the plant sitting in water. For best results, provide bright indirect light, high humidity and temperatures above 16°C.

This rare houseplant is perfect for anyone looking to add an unusual tropical plant to their indoor jungle. With proper care, its remarkable foliage becomes even more impressive as the plant matures.

Care Instructions

Light

Prefers moderate to bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can result in scorched leaves.

Water

Water thoroughly, then allow the top half of the compost to dry out completely before rewatering. This plant stores water and therefore overwatering can cause root rot.

Food

Apply a high quality liquid fertiliser fortnightly in the spring and summer. Do not feed in the autumn and winter months.

Humidity

This plant enjoys high humidity. Place in a bathroom and/or mist regularly with water. Or place on a pebble tray filled with water just below the top of the pebbles.
